You look lost....

We must be pro at this, but several people told us today, "you look lost..." I mean, there are probably good reasons for this statement, but it became humorous how often this happened!
Our "class" today was a scavenger hunt around Dublin to help us learn our way around. From where we are, it's about an hour DART ride so we left around 11:30 and spent the entire afternoon exploring. We had a list of 23 places/buildings/statues that we were supposed to find and take a picture at. This was a bit of a challenge.... We didn't know where any of them were and some of them were in code. For example, the "half cent" bridge referred to the Ha' Penny bridge and "Hags with Bags" is this statue of two women sitting on a bench with satchels at their feet. But we didn't know any of this when we started out. Luckily, we managed to find the National Library (one of the places on our list) and asked someone there for directions to many of the sites. They were able to help us decode them and circle them on a map.
Despite their help, we still got turned around several times. For those of you who don't know, I'm pretty directionally challenged so wandering a city is difficult, especially since road signs are not as clearly marked here. We lost count of how many times we were told "you look lost...." That statement was usually followed by, "Can I help you?" We would then explain where we wanted to go and they would show us on our map where to head. Then they would say, "Are you Americans?" "Yes." "Where from?" Indiana." (This must of been a disappointing answer because they would just nod and say, "Oh yeah, I think I've heard of that." It's too bad we weren't from New York or California since they would have found those more interesting.) We would then ask how they knew we were Americans. Surprisingly, they didn't say it was because of our accents! It was because we were holding maps and looked lost!  We're going to have to work on looking like we know where we're going if we are ever going to fit in here....
But despite the constant rain and always being lost, it was a good afternoon. We really got the lay of the land. I actually might be able to find a few of these places again! Maybe. On a good day. If there are lots of nice Irish people to ask for directions...
